Derek Slama

Prevention Project Director

Derek is the Prevention Project Director at CFPIC. He has worked within the field of prevention for more than a decade, starting his career as a Home Visitor at a Family Resource Center (FRC). Derek’s passion for equitable systems change led him to coordinating local FRC collaboratives by integrating county programs and implementing evidence-based practices. Derek joins CFPIC from the California Department of Social Services, Office of Child Abuse Prevention (OCAP) where he led statewide efforts for developing community-based family support services and, prior to that, supporting the development and planning for the Family First Prevention Services Program and prevention of commercial and sexual exploitation of children and youth. Derek earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from UCLA and a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the California State University, Northridge (CSUN). Derek enjoys spending time with his family and three dogs, exploring California, and spending time outdoors whenever he gets the chance.
