World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026

Today, on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD), we recognize the importance of preventing elder abuse and strengthening the systems and services that support older adults.

Last week, CFPIC partnered with the California Department of Social Services and County Welfare Directors Association of California (CWDA) to host a statewide WEAAD event focused on raising awareness and highlighting efforts to protect older adults throughout California.

We were honored to welcome California Health and Human Services Secretary Kim Johnson, who provided opening remarks on the importance of aging and adult services programs and shared updates on progress under California’s Master Plan for Aging. Attendees also heard from James Treggiari, Program Administrator for Adult Protective Services, on statewide APS updates, trends, and priorities, and from Fay Gordon, State Long-Term Care Ombudsman, who shared information on elder abuse prevention and the Ombudsman Program.

Thank you to the county leaders, state partners, and advocates who joined us and continue to advance this important work across California.
